The evening meeting was called to order at 5:15 by President Paula Hiatt.  There was a noon meeting today also, but Paula stated that we probably won’t have a noon meeting again for awhile.

Paula opened the meeting by handing out the website address to the Council 2 site, from which our local chapter information can be perused.  The address is www.council2.com/locals.  Members are encouraged to check  the website often.

OLD BUSINESS

Don Boxford sent a letter to the BOCC during the crisis stage of budget-cutting, demanding to be included in the process should it entail cutting hours or positions for Union members.  The BOCC responded by sending a letter to  Chris Dugovich, Council 2 President & Executive Director stating the board’s disappointment in Don’s demand.  At the time of Don’s letter, several members had been notified by their Directors/Managers that a forced unpaid day off was eminent and in one case that weekly work hours were being reduced.  The only response to this information came from Human Resources Director Joseph Whalen, whose response was that if someone from the HR office was not in attendance at these meetings with Directors/Managers, then the information was not valid.

We will respond with a letter stating our reaction to the misinformation.

The email account in hotmail, for getting information out to members will be set-up this week.  Once all the contact information is input we will send out a message asking members to respond so that we will know everything is in order.

NEW BUSINESS

The general format of our local chapter meetings was discussed and it was decided to keep them as now, somewhat informal, except for more formal agenda’s, such as contract meetings.

Paula and Diane Huff went to Stewardship training in April and we were informed that it is for more than just the grievance process.  Dora suggested having a ‘steward’ trained in each area. (i.e.: Treasurers, Auditors, etc.)  Dora will draft a letter encouraging participation.

Paula suggested having a ‘contest’ where members have to answer questions from our contract on issues for the upcoming contract negotiations with some prizes available.

There was a brief discussion on the By-Laws. Paula stated that Jan McElroy had read through the draft thoroughly and had found many grammatical mistakes and questions that needed answering.  There will be a call for a vote of acceptance on the revised By-Laws the week of June 1st — 3rd.  There will be a ballot box in the Lower District Court area.

It was moved, seconded and approved that the Chapter will provide $20. per barrel for the flower barrels around the courthouse.

It was decided that in the event the Employee Appreciation luncheon takes place this year, the Chapter will provide cakes, as in the past.  There is some doubt if this will happen this year in light of the budget situation.

It was moved, seconded and approved to adjourn the meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Wendi Reuble, Recording Secretary, Local 792-CH
