New organizers are honored with trip to International Convention

Question: How do you honor all the new AFSCME Volunteer Members Organizers (VMOs) around the nation in a way that they are unlikely to forget?

Answer: You fly them to the International Convention in Las Vegas, feed and house them for a couple of days, and have a special presentation for them during the convention.

Among the hundreds of new members honored in this way at the June convention were four from Council 2.

They are: Carol Sunada and Betty Rae Adams, of Local 846-AA (Aging and Adult Care), and Erica Buckner and Sara Ashead, of Local 113-E (Everett Housing Authority). They are shown alongside. Both the Council 2 Locals were organized for the first time last year.

The members honored were instrumental in recruiting new members and ensuring that the organizing was successful.

The presentation was a first for AFSCME, but judging by its reception, it might be repeated at the next biennial convention.
