THE ISSUE of the removal of the gain-sharing provisions in the state’s pension funds was among the major topics discussed at the Legislative Weekend held in Olympia in early February, attended by more than 130 Council 2 members. (“Improved benefits must replace gain sharing.")

When members met with legislators during the event, they raised the issue with them, handed them a personal message, and asked for their support. The featured speaker at the weekend was Rep. Geoff Simpson (D-Covington), who addressed members at the luncheon held on Friday, February 2.
“He was an excellent speaker,” says Council 2 Deputy Director Pat Thompson. “He was particularly popular among members as he is a firefighter and is essentially one of us. He understands our problems and is willing to help as much as he can to address them.”
Simpson spoke on the challenges that Council 2 faces, including the threats posed by Tim Eyman.
Council 2’s Chief Counsel Audrey Eide conducted a workshop on contract enforcement.

Delegates to the weekend event also had the opportunity to visit Council 2’s new office building in Olympia, which is under construction.
