Etheredge elected treasurer; Johnson retires after 16 years

Kathleen Etheredge

KATHLEEN ETHEREDGE of Local 2617 (City of Kent) was elected Council 2’s Secretary-Treasurer during the Vancouver convention. She replaces Judy Johnson, who retired after serving for 16 years in the position.

Etheredge, senior financial analyst with the City of Kent, served on Council 2’s executive board until her election as secretary-treasurer.

“I feel I have big shoes to fill,” Etheredge says. “Judy Johnson is a woman of integrity and has done a fabulous job for Council 2. I intend to follow in her footsteps.”

Etheredge has worked for the City of Kent for 21 years. She was named employee of the year by the City in April, 2005.
Etheredge says she loves advocating for employees and also advocates for victims of domestic violence as a volunteer with the City of Seattle. She plans to obtain certification as a professional in human resources.

Judy Johnson

In paying tribute to Johnson, Council 2 President/Executive Director Chris Dugovich said that she had overseen the complete restructuring of the union in the 16 years in which she was in office.

She had taken the union from a 6,000-member organization running a financial deficit to a strong 16,000-member union today, he said.

Johnson began her career as a dispatcher in the Bellingham Police Department, later serving as its local union treasurer and president.

“Her 30 years of service to the people of Bellingham, her local union, and the council are a model for all of us,” Dugovich said. “We owe Judy an enormous debt of gratitude for her service, her attention to detail, and the spirit she brought to all of her roles in our union.”
