Letter from the President

Here's how you evaluated your union's services

By CHRIS DUGOVICH

Chris Dugovich
Council 2 President/Executive Director

PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS, as all our members know, are usually less than desirable.

However they are conducted, even those that are the most sophisticated and offer the opportunity for plenty of input can consistently be an annoyance — or worse.

With our members’ feelings and experiences with evaluations uppermost in our minds, Council 2 went out and scientifically surveyed our membership during the month of April.

We wanted to know how our operation and the services we perform are valued by our members.

Through the use of the telephone we asked many questions of some 400 randomly selected dues payers across the state.

So how did we fare? In short, we did well — as a matter of fact we did very well. Slightly more than 65 percent of our members said they were satisfied or very satisfied with the services the union provides.

More than 65 percent said if they had an issue on the job they wouldn’t hesitate to approach a union leader for assistance and more than 60 percent supported our political program.

Although you may not be impressed with these ratings, for comparison purposes the ratings received by political figures seldom reach a 60 percent approval rating and Congress as a whole is now in the 25 percent range.

The major issues that our members cited were, as expected, health care benefits, general wages and COLA increases. Some 75 percent stated that they were satisfied with their pensions and more than 84 percent were satisfied with the relationship they have with their employer.
These are only pieces of the total poll, but overall our leadership across the state can feel good about the direction in which Council 2 is proceeding.

We can always do better and at my level we are trying daily to improve our services and work smarter and harder in providing them!

We’re here to help and we hope you will take advantage of what we provide.
